Returning OW1 players will be able to unlock new characters and heroes through the Battle Pass progression. To unlock playable heroes , fans must reach stage 55 of the free Battle Pass.
Players who are completely new to Overwatch 2 will need to unlock all the original heroes as well as the debuting trio. In Blizzard's 'Defense Matrix' overview under the First Time User Experience heading, it was explained that new players are starting out with only limited access to some mods and heroes.
