For many in the League Championship Series (LCS) community, 2022 brings with it more than a new season; A new beginning for teams that want to showcase their performances globally. Most teams have overhauled their 2021 rosters andare fully prepared for the LoL 2022 tournaments .
Riot Games recently announced that many structural changes are coming to the League Championship Series (LCS), Academy, and Amateur format in 2022. We have compiled the LCS 2022 format , teams, start date and more for you.

The LCS Spring and Summer Seasons will consist of eight weeks of double-round challenges with five games played on Saturday and Sunday. Two weeks each episode will be designated as Super Weeks with an additional five matches on Friday. Regular season registrations will no longer extend from Spring to Summer.
The LCS 2022 Season kicks off on January 14 with the hugely successful Lock In tournament in 2021 . In the tournament, whose format has not changed, 10 LCS teams will fight in groups of five for the Lock In trophy and $150,000 prize.

Teams will compete against the squads in their respective groups, with each squad facing each other once. The top four teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage where they will be matched against the opposing group's formations until only one team remains. Unlike 2021, the entire Lock In tournament will be held at LCS Studios over LAN and the final will be played on January 30.

The LCS 2022 Spring Playoffs will be limited to six teams, and the winner will be eligible to become the North American representative for the Mid-Season Invitational.
Playoff Format
NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas will host the lower group finals and grand finals with fan participation from April 23-24.
The Academy Spring and Summer Splits will be two-game best-of-two consecutive rounds, with a total of 36 games for each team during each regular season. Academy games will be played on Thursdays and Fridays, with LCS Super Weeks shifted to Wednesday and Thursday.
The amateur competition circuit will be combined in two tournaments run alongside each Academy division. Amateur matches will be played on Mondays and Tuesdays and will be broadcast on the channels of the Academy and broadcast partners. Starting from an open Swiss qualifier, the top 16 teams will advance to the main tournament. These 16 teams will be split into four GSL Groups, of which the top eight will qualify for the playoffs. Playoffs will be single elimination, with points awarded based on overall performance. The top 10 Amateur teams from the two tournaments will qualify for the Proving Grounds.
