Activision Blizzard announced on Sunday that Overwatch 2 will launch in "early access" on October 4 . At least the PVP parts will be like that. And in one big change, it will be free to play - the original Overwatch was a paid game. It will release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Overwatch 2 early access will feature a new hero in each role.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra said in a press release;
“We can't wait to launch the Overwatch 2 experience on October 4, delivering an exciting new competitive vision that includes a reimagining of the great iconic heroes and new content, maps and gameplay that made the original game so compelling. This is the start of an ever-open and ever-evolving era for the franchise, and its way of serving players with frequent and important updates well planned into the future to keep Overwatch 2 fresh and enjoyable for many years to come."
Blizzard first announced Overwatch 2 back in 2019, but the game has started showing off in earnest over the past few months, including a closed beta . The company divided the development of the PVP and PVE parts of the game. While PVP will be available on October 4, we still don't know when the PVE episode will be available.

Overwatch 2 will be released with new heroes in each role. While Sojourn and Junker Queen are some of the old heroes, Kanekaza Fox Girl is one we've never seen before; she can summon a fox spirit that grants her teammates some buffs, such as a speed boost through a series of tori gates. This new hero uses a unique ninja star-like weapon but is huge. This weapon is somewhat similar to Yuffie's square shuriken. Her new character is thought to be the daughter of Toshiro Yamagami, who works as a wordsmith at Shimada.
However, you'll also be pleased to know that Activision Blizzard has removed some of the game's most unwanted maps. Hanamura, Temple of Anubus, and other similar Overwatch maps will no longer appear in Overwatch 2. Don't forget to play the game's early access when it's released on October 4, 2022 .
