Valorant: What is at the root of the problems that arise with the ranking system?

The Valorant ranking system does not reward players with 'ascension' even if they have an 80% win rate. Valorant's Lead Character Designer addresses transparent issues.

What is supposed to be one of Valorant 's best features is becoming one of the most frustrating experiences for its wider player base.

In Valorant, the ranking system, which aims to keep the game fresh and alive until a suitable esports scene is established, is slowly becoming a reward-free system that no one expected.

To tell you the truth, the game's ranking system has been very similar to the rankings in League of Legends lately . Promises were made that there would be a system that would reward players with better mechanical abilities, but it seems that players are complaining that this promise has not been fulfilled.

Upranking will cause a very small boost no matter how well you play and how many matches you win, and a direct tier drop occurs when you lose two games.

"Furious" Valorant playerbase

Recently, a Valorant player took to Reddit for support on how the game's ranking system has let everyone down.

In Riot's Defense:

Riot was aware of the ranking issues that have been prevalent in Valorant lately. However, instead of hiding complications between the development teams, Valorant lead character designer Ryan “Morello” Scott decided to be transparent with his player base. In a recent Twitch upload, Morello talked about issues with the Valorant development team's ranking system. And he says:  “Nobody has [VALORANT's] ranked system right now - that's a huge problem.”

However,  it meant that Morello had recently left Riot Games , who was responsible for the work on the ranked system (in terms of design). This means they currently have no one to talk to the player base when there are ranking issues. This was the main reason why Riot was so quiet about the MMR system in rank and that player queries at the top and bottom levels were barely addressed. However, Riot is working to find a more permanent solution to the problem, and players will have to wait until the developers start fixing it.
