If you want to build a squad from scratch in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team , use FUT → Squads → Squad Operations → Squad Selector. From here, choose Create New Squad → Start From Scratch.
Squad Selector is a feature in FIFA 22 that allows you to select, rename and create a new squad in Ultimate Team.

Once you have a squad in your FUT 22 club, you can edit and change. On the Squad screen, you can change players, add players to your starting 11, Substitute (SUB) and Reserve (RES) player slots. You can also change a manager in your manager slots (MGR) and add them to your team. To qualify a squad for play, you must have 11 players in your starting 11 and 7 players in your backups and a manager. Having a substitute is not mandatory to start a match, but having a substitute on your squad will benefit your club in some cases.
Substitutes are players who have a contract with a football club or team but do not normally play in matches for the A team.
In FIFA and FUT, there are five player card algorithms for your Substitutes (abbreviated as RES). Substitutes are not mandatory in FUT. You cannot change players you have reserved during a match. Players in substitute slots will not use any contracts and there is no requirement (like being contracted, in shape or not getting a red card) for a player to be on your reserve team.
Benefits of having substitutes
By having players in your spare slots, you can take advantage of the following features of FUT 22 when your team goes to a match:
