It's been three years since the pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves was released on PC and Xbox One. While the journey wasn't as smooth as developer Rare had hoped, the studio is now proud to announce that more than 20 million players have sailed on the pirate-themed ship to the MMO . Gamers weren't too happy with the game when it was first released in March 2018, due to the general lack of content and issues with grief expected from a pirate-themed game. Three years and countless updates later, Sea of Thieves is back on the map, celebrating not only its anniversary, but a very impressive milestone for every game.
Chief designer Andrew Preston shared the first treasure won on Sea of Thieves via his Twitter account to celebrate three years of sailing with a funny and touching record.

Developer Rare has released both Sea of Thieves ' sales of more than 20 million copies and a new trailer in honor of its 3rd anniversary. To celebrate both events, the company will be giving away free Souvenir cosmetics to players who log into the game from now until March 25 . Players will also have a chance to earn double gold, Trading Company reputation, and additional Seasonal Fame in the special Gold and Glory weekend event from March 19 to March 22 . Moreover, the game will be available at a 50% discount on the Microsoft Store until March 21 .
According to an Xbox Wire post detailing the anniversary celebrations, " a chest full of goodies and bonuses " scheduled for the rest of the month will be waiting for players. Sea of Thieves players signing in today through March 18-25 can get the "Rich captain's sails" and Xbox Game Pass subscribers can get the " Jump for joy " phrase.
