League of Legends 2024 Pre-Season will launch this year after the 2023 World Championship. While we don't have exact preseason details yet, Riot has revealed some insights into what's planned for Summoner's Rift this season.
Riot Reav3 and Riot Meddler talked about the Season 14 changes . More systematic and future-oriented development updates are planned for the short term.
Map and Dragon Changes
While Riot wants to focus on items and item system changes , it's not enough to improve the current game state. The developers are currently working on some map changes to help make top lane players and mages less lootable.
Senior vice president Riot Meddler commented on a Reddit post:
If the Ice Dragon does well for Wild Rift, we're also open to adding it to LoL PC at some point. Adding additional dragons isn't currently one of our top priorities for pre-season/major game updates, but we think other issues are more urgent from a gameplay standpoint.
So, if things go well in Wild Rift, we'll see an extra dragon somewhere in the future. We don't know if it will necessarily happen in Season 14 , but at least we can hope.
Minion Changes
Looking at gameplay agenda 13.7, Riot Axes and Riot Phroxzon announced their plans to "differentiate minions in each lane."
What this means exactly is still unknown. We can expect different types of minions in each lane or a different number of minions depending on the lane.
► Riot Plans to Replace Minions in LoL 2024 Pre-Season
In a developer update in June, Riot mentioned more item reworks to be made in the new season of League . However, they did not give much detail on the subject.
Jeremy "Brightmoon" Lee revealed in a recent developer update for Riot that the 2024 LoL Pre-Season Era will focus on items. This is nothing new, the 2023 mid-season update also focuses on itemization, specifically the addition of legendary items.
Multiple items were changed and updated in the mid-season update , but were these updates efficient and helpful to the game? We're not so sure. As a legendary, Eternal Blade is not very popular, while other items are doing very well in the bottom lane, Riot will be reviewing these changes and pre-existing legendary items to adjust accordingly
Will Riot remove legendary items? This is the biggest question right now. Initially, legends were added to create unique builds for champions depending on the situation, but the legendary system didn't evolve that way, so now we'll see what the balance and preseason team decides to do before League Season 14.
Unverified Theories
With the Tournament of Souls event apparently using a lot of RAM on people's computers, players are once again wondering if and when LoL will see a major client update. The client needs a serious update, not only to combat the constant bugs that occur, but also to improve the player's quality of life. When and whether we will see this has not yet been spoken by Riot.
